Lately, it seems like people will do anything to avoid sugar. But they shouldn't have to give up their health in the process. The list below shows some of the potential negative health effects artificial sweeteners are doing to ourselves and our children.
Potential Side Effects of Artificial Sweeteners:
- Acesulfame potassium (Sunett): cancer, headaches, depression, nausea, mental confusion, liver & kidney damage, visual disturbances, and thyroid damage.
- Aspartame (NutraSweet or Equal): vertigo, insomnia, blurred vision, memory loss, depression, hyperactivity, gastrointestinal disorders, skin lesions, anxiety attacks, muscle and joint pain, loss of energy, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, cancer, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimers' disease, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.
- Sucralose (Splenda): skin rashes, panic-like agitation, dizziness, headaches, intestinal cramping, bladder issues, stomach pain, enlarged liver and kidneys, and thymus gland shrinkage (up to 40% shrinkage).
- Saccharin (Sweet 'N Low): bladder cancer link.
